Hotel bars are usually hard to find- as they’re hiding in plain sight, usually located somewhere behind a garage or a room that no one visits. Then there’s the Speakeasy, in Downtown Miami’s Continental Hotel, which thankfully is debuting for everyone’s enjoyment. It’s named Freddy’s Speakeasy and is the hotel’s new clandestine watering hole. It is named after the 19th Century Polish composer and pianist, Frederick Francois Chopin, the same poetic genius that sung love music to the French writer Aurore Dupin, (known by her pen-name George Sand), in the romantic Island of Mallorca, Spain.
To access 12-seat, a Prohibition Era bar, visitors will need reservations, but that’s only the beginning. Once you’ve booked a spot, the next guessing is finding the bar? After reservation confirmation, patrons get instructions on how to access Freddy’s and be escorted to the hidden location, where a secret knock serves as the open key.
A dim room, 1920s-style with vintage furnishings and plush couches waits for the visitors, as does a complimentary taste of Four Ballads, made with Casa Noble infused with cilantro, Cointreau, fresh lime and simple syrup. Cocktails price is $18 and include complex tipples like the Green Light, mixed with Mezcal, green chartreuse, chocolate bitters, fresh lemon juice and syrup. There’s also a special Maker’s Mark Cask cocktail that’s infused with various liquors and aged for six weeks.
Book your stop at Freddy’s Speakeasy now: Reservations are open and can be made Via Open Table for seating Thursday through Saturday at 5pm, 7:30pm or 10:00pm.
